No, this isn’t about Dr. Dre’s latest songs being made available on Apple’s music platform next year (that’s not a thing, unfortunately, because who wouldn’t love another chronic anthem?). After last year’s purchase of the music mogul’s outlet, Apple are now planning to roll out the Beats Music streaming system next year.
With iTunes sales down around 15% since the start of the year, Apple realise that streaming sites such as Spotify (not to mention illegal downloads) are taking that huge chunk out of their profits, so they’re refitting Beats’ streaming service and will add it in to their own iTunes from next year.
Rumours abound as to what exactly their plan of action is – completely ditch the digital sales, or keep it going alongside the streaming service? – but there is talk that Apple are looking at dropping the streaming subscription prices to around $5 a month (take that, Spotify!) and may be launching next February to coincide with the Grammys. Exciting times for music fans!
