In news that will warm the heart – and jeans pocket – of every charge-paranoid smartphone owner on Earth, Singaporean scientists have unveiled a new gadget that can charge even the greediest of next gen phones in just ten minutes. Nanyang Technological University claims a new chip they’ve made will allow for optimal charging, and all in a device the size of a fingernail.
Professor Rachid Yazami says “current chargers do not take into account the health of a battery when charging it. They send the same amount of charge regardless of the battery’s condition. With this chip, the charge can be regulated to avoid damaging the battery”.
The chip is expected to be finalized shortly and could be available, to the considerable delight of all those who live in fear of running out of juice, by the end of 2016.
