In news that may well depress tour operators already beset by the selfie sticks and smartphones of a thousand wandering shutterbugs, Facebook has unveiled a new 360 degree camera that should revolutionise the way we take pictures of things in vaguely spherical spaces the world over.
Although those tour operators shouldn’t worry too much as the rigs themselves may be technologically, and financially, out of reach for most casual consumers, but do appear to boast a pretty robust set of technical specs to boot.
With a suite of different options, providing resolutions as high as 8K, this range will be some of the more accessible panoramic cameras available, and their footage will be stitched together in real time via Facebook’s own bespoke software. Viewed as being a tie-in for the Facebook owned Oculus Rift, the rigs will be available this Summer.
