In a move almost certainly taken from the beginning of a bad sci-fi movie, Google have announced that their latest act of global hubris will be to beam 5G internet down to earth from Solar Drones. Although no critics have yet alleged the drones will gain consciousness and start raining down hot fiery death on those below, the announcement has been met by stunned recognition of just how ambitious a plan this is.
The aircraft have been tested in a giant hangar in New Mexico, where trials aim to gauge the feasibility for a roll out later this decade. 40 times faster than conventional 4G, Skybender broadband would be transmitted from the self-flying aircraft, powered exclusively on the sun’s rays and capable of flying long haul flights while delivering instant, lightning-fast internet access anywhere in the world. Either that or the first air strikes in the robot uprising. Either way, pretty exciting!
