Sky & ITV Join Forces To Host UK eSports TV Channel

The burgeoning field of eSports, long popular in the US – and phenomenally, bewilderingly huge in Asia – has not really taken much of a foothold in the British and Irish market. Until now that is, as Sky and ITV have announced that they have taken a minority stake in GinxTV, an eSports channel that is currently viewable online via Virgin Media, but which will soon be included as part of Sky’s original bundle package of TV.

This marks the first big push for broadcast TV eSports in the UK, complete with live commentary, analysis and local flavour, with Ginx’s existing UK studios providing a hosting platform for any tournaments to be held in the capital. It remains to be seen whether this gamble will pay off, but it certainly seems they’re prepared to put their money where their mouth is for the time being.
