LifeBeam Smart Hat
The fitness tracker business could be in trouble. Some analysts claim that the sales of these small, often rubbery wrist-worn devices will decline this year. I still see them in electronic and sports shops but their popularity seems to be on the wain. The key reasons seem to be the rise of other wearable tech products. Apple’s arrival in to the smart-watch arena has been important but other there are other types of wearable devices that can help you monitor how much good exercise you’re getting and I think this is where the fitness conscious consumer may be migrating to.
Alcatel Idol 4+VR
This is the year of VR, as technology leaders like Facebook, Google, Samsung and HTC launch products that can, virtually, transport you from your sofa to a planet on the other side of the universe. VR headsets are not cheap and it may be a year or two before they enter the mainstream, but phone maker Alcatel may have stolen a march on the tech giants with their new mid-range phone, as it comes packaged, inside a VR headset.

Television is changing. The quality of TV programming has been stepped up enormously over the last few years but so has the volume of TV content. On-demand services are being launched regularly as even niche content providers find an audience, for things as diverse as educational content to art-house films. All of these services can’t survive or prosper via the old-fashioned terrestrial TV system so subscriptions are required with some being funded by targeted advertising, and some are delivered exclusively over the internet.

Television and how we watch it, is changing. We have more screens, from living room to tablet and there’s a growing stack of shows that include those we’ve always watched and new ones that someone’s suggested we’ll love. Watching television shouldn’t be a chore. It should be intuitive and accessible ensuring that we get the most important thing out of the experience, entertainment.
Panasonic Home Monitoring & Control Kit
Technology is disrupting more than a few businesses, and one of the industries coming under pressure from the digital economy is the home-security business. DIY enthusiasts are kitting their homes out with all manner of cameras and monitoring equipment to keep an eye on everything from their valuables to their pets. But there’s more to security than just a camera. ‘Light up’ we’re told, to keep burglars out and secure windows and doors. Global tech giant have introduced some DIY kits that can help you do, just that.

The technology business loves a good moniker and the Quantified Self is one that we’re likely to hear more often over the next couple of years. This new movement is gathering pace as more of us become interested in the finer detail and data of our lives that technology can now give us. The digital footprints we leave as we breath, eat and exercise can now be recorded and analysed in a way that can help us understand ourselves a little better and perhaps even change our habits to give us a healthier life.
