A team of British scientists have been given approval for a revolutionary new technique of selectively editing genes within embryos, with the express intention of tracking and achieving more successful embryo development
The team at the Francis Crick Institute, led by Dr. Kathy Niakan, hopes to better their understanding of those factors necessary for the development of healthy embryos and genetic input. So any hyperbole about playing God to make ‘super babies’ with wings and heat vision is a little way off, as analysts say this is merely a first step on the way to improving fertility treatments and research into human reproduction, and will only be decreed viable for research work, and not for active medical cases.
The research will now be submitted for ethical approval, perhaps in a sinister judge’s chamber where conflicting scientists are dragged away screaming that all this meddling will bring about the end times.
