GOOGLE MAY HAVE MASTERED THE SMART CONTACT LENS
There has been rumours circulating that Google – still licking its wounds after the recent relative failure of Google Glass – are still wading into the wearable eye tech, with talk of a smart contact lens due for release some time in 2019.
However, recent rumblings have revealed that they’re apparently already investigating packaging for the device, which would indicate that the tech may be available much sooner than previously thought.
Now, before we get ahead of ourselves and think that this is going to be a teeny, tiny version of the Google Glass that we can actually fit under our eyelids, this smart contact lens is initially only being used to detect and measure glucose levels in diabetes sufferers and inform or alert the wearer accordingly. With these incredible technological advances one must ask, how long will it really be before the lens does actually become the kind of futuristic tech we all dream it will be?
