In news that’s sure to delight those who love the eye-massaging beauty of proper, full, Ultra-HD, Sky have announced that their first suite of 4k broadcasts will be rolled out from August 13th this year. Delivered via their spangly new Sky Q Silver box, this will be the first broadly available range of 4k programming the telecoms giant has undertaken, more than a year after BT pioneered the field with its luxuriously high definition sport and movie coverage.
This will also be a stab toward the heart of Netflix, who have been broadcasting in 4k for some time, and for whom that distinction has been something of a prize card in the ratings war. This, however, will be the first time viewers will have had as much to choose from, with every single Formula 1 race, numerous Hollywood movies, and some bespoke drama all available in full eye-gorging glory. Let the battle for our retinas commence.
